How to be a Mindful Mom

What does it mean to be mindful?

Every mom wants to be more mindful, achieve her goals, be present in the moment, and face obstacles with grace. However, with all the numerous challenges and concerns of everyday life, that seems like such a hard thing to do. A crying baby, quarrels between friends, and an insane workload at the office, or troubles at school. Consequently, we don't always get to cherish every moment. And at the end of the day, we sometimes wish we had done things differently when faced with all the chaos. But the great news is, mindfulness is a skill that can be honed with practice.


❤️ Try these 5 tips to help you appreciate every moment: 

  1. Be present with your family: Don’t let your concerns and worries distract you from your children. Turn off all distractions and connect with your children. Be there to play with them, look at their crafts, laugh with them, and show them how much you care about them.


  1. Set aside time for yourself: As much as you want to put the needs of others before yours, try to schedule some alone time to clear your mind and unwind. Soak in a bubble bath. Pour yourself a glass of wine. Do yoga. If you think you're being selfish, you're not. You're just recharging your batteries in order to better face challenges and make wiser decisions. Every great mom must take good care of herself in order to nurture the whole family. 


  1. Give your kids some space: Accept their individuality and let them play on their own. Be aware that things are always changing, but at the end of the day, you'll still be their most favorite person. 


  1. Ask for help: Accept the fact that you can't do everything. You simply don’t have such super powers. Teach other family members how to be more responsible, delegate tasks, and free some time to do other fun things together.


  1. Breathe: Be aware of the subtle movements in your body as you inhale and exhale. Notice how much more relaxed you are as you let your body and mind experience some quality time. Notice the rise and fall of your chest. The rise and fall of your stomach. Notice the activity of your own thoughts. Hold it for a moment and then exhale slowly, imagining any tensions you have are leaving your body through your breath. Give your mind the opportunity to slow down and embrace the wonderful experience that is deep, soothing relaxation. Every time that stress starts mounting, remember to just breathe.

Thank you for sharing this. As a mother myself we tend to focus on our children and their needs, our spouses and the house, etc before tending to our own health, needs and wants.
